hen co-owner Mark

his grandmother his
aspirations to open a restaurant, she
replied that he was “mad as a hatter”.
W
signature gourmet cuisine. Mad Hatters is known for its array of traditionally inspired dishes with a twist- take
the banana nut crusted rockfish with
a Dark n’ Stormy sauce, for example.
Head Chef Ben is the culinary mastermind and entertaining personality
behind the playful menu. His eclectic
background and classical training
ensure that each plate is special and
your overall experience is one for the storybooks. Be sure to keep an eye out
for Chef Ben- he’ll often visit guests’
tables to tell a joke and share a laugh.
Mad Hatters’ fans rave about the
restaurant’s ever-changing menu.
While the set selection is actually quite
small, the kitchen creates an extensive
list of supplemental daily specials to
entice and delight. There’s always
something different to try, especially
at lunchtime. Mad Hatters crafts an
entirely new lunch menu, which you
can view in advance on their website.
Although every day is different, two
of our all-time favourite dishes include
the wild mushroom broth- laced with
coconut and red chili milk- and the herb
breaded rack of lamb with mustard
spread, roast parsnips and mint jus.
Situated on Richmond Road on the
outskirts of Hamilton, Mad Hatters can
be a little tough to find for first time
visitors. However, as soon as you pull
into the parking lot, you’ll discover
that the quiet, tranquil location has all
the convenience without the bustle
or traffic. A fully enclosed patio area
provides scenic outdoor dining in all
weather and seasons. Mad Hatters
is also able to host private functions,
large and small.
Reservations are required.
Lunch: Mon to Fri, 12pm – 2pm
Dinner: Mon to Sat from 6pm – 9pm
Little did grandma know that she’d ac-
tually coined the name of what would
quickly become one of Hamilton’s
most unique and well-loved eateries.
Particularly unusual is Mad Hatters’
decor. When you enter the dining
room, you’ll notice that the walls and
coat racks are filled with an amazing
hat collection from around the world.
Pick one- or two, or three!- that suits
your fancy, and use it to take on a new
persona as you enjoy your meal. Let
us be the first to welcome you to Mad
Hatters, where we’re all a little mad.
